The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The International Award is an exciting self-development programme for all young people worldwide. It equips them with life skills, builds their confidence and engages them with their communities. To date more than six million young people from over 125 countries have undertaken a variety of voluntary and challenging activities through the Award.

International Award Update

Now completing our second year of offering the International Award (at Bronze and Silver Level) we are pleased to announce that we have our first 3 Award holders, at Bronze Level; Izzie Darvall (Year 11), Joanna Efstathiou (Year 10) and Maria Louca (Year 11). Just in time for the May Awards ceremony these three awards were authorised by the UK and were presented after a lot of hard work on behalf of the participants.

Alongside this, two groups successfully completed their Bronze Adventurous Journey and one group successfully completed their Silver Adventurous Journey. All three groups looked at pollution levels and flora/fauna in the Polis area and were surprised at the amount, and type, of pollution found.

On a more positive note they were also struck by Cyprus’ hidden beauty, something that we tend to forget when we live here.

So what next? We will continue to offer the Award during the next academic year at Bronze and Silver Level and hope that we will have more applicants, and that some of our current participants will complete the other sections to complete their Awards.

WELL DONE to all those who have taken kart this year, and look forward to seeing you all in September,

Mrs Polycarpou & Mrs Botha
