The International School of Paphos was founded in 1987 as a co-educational day and boarding school located in the town centre. The school developed gradually throughout the late 1980s and ‘90s and experienced rapid growth at the turn of the 21st century.

It is currently a day school, situated in Anavargos Village, on the outskirts of Paphos. Our purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities were completed in 2006.

Student Body

Our student intake was international from the outset and has always included pupils from Cyprus, the United Kingdom, Russian-speaking countries and over 20 other European and non-European countries.

The International School of Paphos strives to create an educational environment that is inclusive and in which every member of staff, every student and every family, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender, is equally valued.

At the same time, the school is rooted in a Christian community and the Greek language and traditions are an integral part of our school ethos.

All students participate in Citizenship lessons enabling them to become responsible and productive members of the global society.

National and International Recognition

The International School of Paphos is recognised both nationally and internationally. It is registered with and regularly inspected by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture. It is also an approved centre for two of the largest UK examination boards, CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) and Edexcel / Pearson, as well as for the Ellinomatheia examinations (Greek language proficiency) from the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki in Greece. In addition to IGCSE and GCE qualifications, which reflect a globally established standard of education, the school’s graduates receive a School-Leaving Certificate (Apolytirion) that is recognised in Cyprus, the United Kingdom and across Europe.

The school is also a centre for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), recognised by the Cyprus Computer Society and CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies).

Learning Philisophy and Curriculum

We cater for all age groups from Kindergarten (2½ years +) to Year 13 (18 years +). Our aim is to provide opportunities for all students to achieve their personal best and become responsible, productive citizens. We ensure that social development is valued as highly as academic learning and great attention is paid to all matters of pastoral care. The school follows both the English National Curriculum and the requirements of the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture. It takes into account its location in Cyprus as well as its international student intake, meaning that pupils come to us with a wide variety of learning styles and academic abilities as well as linguistic and cultural experiences. Therefore, while a large percentage of our pupils are native English speakers, we also have special courses for pupils with first languages other than English. In consultation with parents, the school may also provide individual programmes of study based on the children’s specific needs. We assess pupils' progress using diagnostic formative and summative assessments. Diagnostic assessment can help to identify the students' current knowledge of a subject as well as their skill sets and capabilities and to clarify misconceptions before teaching takes place. Formative assessment or assessment for learning provides feedback and information in order to promote further improvement of student performance during the learning process. Summative assessment or assessment of learning takes place after a programme studies has been completed and provides information and feedback that sums up the teaching and learning process. In Years 10 to 13, we teach IGCSE and GCE courses from the English examination boards, CIE and Edexcel / Pearson. In Years 12 and 13, pupils are also tested for their School-Leaving Certificate (Apolytirion). The process of learning should be enjoyable, active and dynamic. We are committed to continuing professional development to encourage teaching methods that are creative, varied and flexible.
