The International School of Paphos (ISOP) invites you to the play, ‘Girls Like That’, by Evan Placey performed by the school’s Greek Theatre Club, directed by the Drama Teacher, Mrs Stefanie Mavrokordatou and translated into Greek by Vangelis Kyriacou.
The play ‘Girls Like That’ undertakes a tremendously prominent and contemporary topic, which is highly relevant to teenagers today. Through a combination of humour and intense emotion, it highlights the impacts and the psychological harm that can be caused by the misuse of digital media by teenagers and usually by their own peers.
Although ISOP is an English-speaking school, it has been consistently promoting the Greek language and culture through various activities. This performance will be the fifth participation of ISOP in the Pancyprian School Theatre Games. With great success in the past, including the 3rd place last year, we are anticipating yet another meaningful performance.
A short synopsis of the play:
When a naked photograph of schoolgirl Scarlett goes viral, rumours spread across smartphones like wildfire and her reputation becomes toxic, threatening to shatter the fragile unity of the girls she has grown up with. But how long can Scarlett remain silent? Whilst the boy is applauded for his sexual conquest, the girl’s morality is shamed and ultimately, she is so humiliated that she is forced to leave the school. Her worst tormentors turn out to be the girls she has grown up with and who are jealous of her transition into womanhood.
‘Girls Like That’ is an urgent and explosive play that explores gender equality and the pressures on today’s digital generation.
It is a play that speaks the truth: the truth of teenage life!
