School Counsellor

The International School of Paphos is seeking to appoint a professional, and student-centered School Counsellor. The position is offered on a part-time basis and may be undertaken either through an employment contract or a professional service-provider agreement.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the emotional wellbeing, personal development, and mental health of students across the school. Working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and external agencies, the School Counsellor will contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual brief and solution focused counselling and emotional support to students.
  • Support students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, or mental health difficulties.
  • Work closely with Heads of Year, pastoral staff, teachers, and school leadership to identify and support students’ needs.
  • Liaise with parents and guardians regarding student wellbeing when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with safeguarding and data protection requirements.
  • Participate in safeguarding procedures and contribute to risk assessments and student support plans.
  • Signpost and refer students and families to external services where necessary.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Psychology or Counselling.
  • Professional qualification in counselling, psychotherapy, counselling psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection practices.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and school-based mental health interventions.
  • Experience delivering workshops and preventative wellbeing programmes.
  • Familiarity with international school environments.
