As the year draws to a close, we cherish the memory of a special day in March when we celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the Oscar-winning film ‘Zorba the Greek’.
Directed by the renowned Cypriot filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis, the film brought to life Nikos Kazantzakis’ timeless 1946 novel ‘The Life and Times of Alexis Zorba’.
Kazantzakis, known for his profound contributions to modern Greek Literature, remains the most translated Greek author worldwide and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature not just once but nine times!
Our entire school joined in the festivities, dancing to the unforgettable rhythm of “Zorba’s Dance” (or Sirtaki), composed by the legendary Mikis Theodorakis.
This iconic melody has become synonymous with Greek culture, symbolising joy, passion, and unity.
The whole-school event brought together over 150 staff members and more than 1,000 students, aged 2.5 to 18, who danced with incredible engagement and enthusiasm.
