The International School of Paphos has been running The International Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for nearly 15 years. This week Dr. Olympiou, Head Teacher, was very proud of how our students represented our Award Unit, and school, when they had an opportunity to meet His Royal Highness, Earl of Wessex. Award Participants were asked by HRH about their experiences and chatted about the difficulties of continuing the Award under COVID limitations. Mrs Polycarpou, Award Leader, accompanied the students and is happy that the school’s Award Unit is back in full action. Ready for new participants to join in September!
We are pleased to welcome new participants to the school’s International Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at any time of the year as any young person can participate in the award scheme from the age of 13 ½ years. The Award is offered at Bronze, Silver or Gold Level; each of these becomes more demanding to the participant. You can start at any level, complete one, two or all three depending on your level of commitment and the time you have to give to the Award. In 1956 the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, Duke of Edinburgh, first launched The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to challenge young people. Interestingly, it has no fixed goal, you design your own award to challenge yourself. The Award, however, is designed to stretch the individual in four areas: Skill, Physical Recreation, Service and Adventurous Journey.
The International School of Paphos offers the award at all three levels and supports our students in achieving their goals. The skill, service and physical recreation activities are chosen independently by students and can be taken concurrently or sequentially. They can also be new activities or on-going commitments. The Adventurous Journey requires a team and ISOP helps students find teams, train and carry out this exciting activity. If any students are interested in starting their challenge, please contact Mr A Ignatiou or Ms M Kkeli, our Award Leaders.
